Answering an Anti-Catholic question

The contradiction is by Jennifer. The entire point of Paul saying that we are saved by Grace apart from works is to prove that we cannot be saved by our own efforts. Yet, Jennifer would have us deny ourselves the Sacraments which are the very way that we receive Grace.

In John 20:23, Jesus tells the Apostles that the sins they don't forgive are held bound. 1 John tells us that serious sins are mortal/ deadly. In 1 Peter 3, Peter tells us that Baptism saves us. In John 6, Jesus tells us that if we do not eat His flesh and drink His blood we have no life in us.

If we do not avail ourselves of the opportunity to receive Grace, then we wind up doing exactly what Jennifer decries, trying to save ourselves by our own effort.
