Since the release of the Netflix documentary The Crash, the Free Mackenzie Shirilla site, of which I am a member has seen a five-fold growth in size. Despite insistence by people who side with the prosecution, any objective person who becomes familiar with this case understands that there are serious doubts.

People who insist that this was a murder, orchestrated by Mackenzie Shirilla, tend to make very emotional arguments. Often, these arguments are driven by intense dislike for Mackenzie and her parents. Certainly, there are some very troubling attributes in the behaviors and decisions of these people but that doesn't mean that the facts of the case should be ignored.

This conviction was based on what occurred in literally less than one minute involving a car moving down 7/10 of a mile on Progress Drive in Strongsville, Ohio. We have about 15 seconds of that trip on film, half at the start, half at the end.

There are too many unanswered questions

  • When did the shoe get stuck between the pedals?

  • When, why and how did Mackenzie wind up under the passenger side dashboard?

  • Who grabbed the steering wheel and shifter and why?

and so on.

Flat out, the prosecution did not prove motive, opportunity and intent. They just plain didn't and the public knows it.
