Remembering the impact of Saint Therese of Lisieux

Today is October 1st, the feast day of Saint Therese of Lisieux. Every year, for the first 7 days of October, her relics are brought out into the Basillica for veneration. In the evening of the 7th, they are taken out in procession and retired for the year. last year, I had the unbelievable blessing of witnessing that procession.

It is almost impossible to describe the impact this saint has had on my life in the last year including welcoming a friend into the church at the Easter Vigil who took her name as patron.

I took over 600 pictures and videos in my 17 days in Portugal, Spain and France and almost 90 of them were in Lisieux. I was fully unprepared for the impact this saint would have on my life in my growth in love and humility, sacrifice and forgiveness. I now deal with evil people differently. I try to pray for them rather than engage them.

One of the most incredible experiences in Lisieux was walking the streets as you see in the first video. Another was a picture in the hotel lobby that shows the destruction of World War 2 with only the Convent, Basilica, Parish church, hotel and home of Therese preserved.

I have been very open about my walk of faith as a very difficult and painful one. Inspired by Therese and her little way, I read books, watch videos, say prayers, practice devotionals, pick myself up and soldier on.

Little flower, pray for us.
