Pope Leo grants two Jubilee indulgences that I will be able to take advantage of on the same trip!

In a truly wonderful convergence of proclamations, Pope Leo XIV has set me up pretty nicely. He has set up two different Jubilees that overlap in a way that will actually allow me to take advantage of both of them on the same trip! I am deeply humbled and grateful God has worked through this Pope to provide such an incredible opportunity.

In my trip in November, I will fly out of Dulles airport outside of Washington, DC. The plane will land in Denver, Colorado before I fly on to Santa Fe, New Mexico.

In Santa Fe, I will go to Saturday Mass at the Basilica of Saint Francis.

This will complete my devotion of 5 first Saturdays to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In this case, all 5 Masses will be in churches I attended Mass in for the first time.

The other 4 locations are- The chapel of Saint Therese in Rhode Island, the Shrine of the Miraculous Medal in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, The Parish of Saint Francis of Assisi in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and the Cathedral of Saint Matthew in Washington, DC.

Attending Mass at the Saint Francis Basilica in Santa Fe will also fulfill the Jubilee indulgence requirements of the Saint Francis Jubillee that runs from January, 2026 to January, 2027.

As it happens, just a few days later, I will be in Mexico where another Jubilee has been declared, specific to where I will be- the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Incredibly, I got a forshadowing last weekend in Wisconsin, as the image was on the wall of the hotel cafe.

The indulgence is offered to those who travel to the actual location in Mexico.

In a momentous decree of spiritual grace and renewal, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, through the Apostolic Penitentiary, has officially declared a Jubilee Year of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Announced by Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes, Archbishop Primate of Mexico, this sacred period commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the Dedication of the New Basilica of Santa María de Guadalupe and the solemn Transfer of the Sacred Image of Our Lady. Commencing on October 12, 2026, and concluding on October 12, 2027, this year-long celebration invites the faithful around the world to draw near to the "Sacred House" of Our Lady of Guadalupe, offering special opportunities for spiritual conversion, liturgical devotion, and the reception of a Plenary Indulgence.

According to the Vatican, during the Jubilee Year, which will conclude on October 12, 2027, "as granted by the Holy See, the faithful who with devotion and contrition visit the Sacred Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe and participate in a liturgical act or dedicate time to prayer in the Basilica will be able to obtain a plenary indulgence for themselves or apply it for the souls in Purgatory," announced Cardinal Aguiar Retes. To obtain the indulgence, the usual conditions established by the Church must be met: confession, Eucharistic communion, recitation of the Creed, and prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father.

Com. Of. 34/2026 Prot. 647/2026

Mexico City, September 9, 2026

Subject: Guadalupan Jubilee Year, 50th Anniversary of the Dedication of the New Basilica of Santa María de Guadalupe

To the lay faithful, members of consecrated life, and clergy who journey on pilgrimage in this Archdiocese:

Receive a warm greeting in Christ Jesus.

With deep joy and gratitude, I announce to you that Pope Leo XIV, through the Apostolic Penitentiary, has granted a Guadalupan Jubilee Year on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Dedication of the New Basilica of Santa María de Guadalupe and the Transfer of the Sacred Image of Our Mother, which occurred on October 12, 1976. Where she continues to await us and welcome each of her sons and daughters, reminding us: «am I not here, I who am your Mother? ...»

To the People of God entrusted to my care, I extend a cordial invitation to attend the Solemn Eucharist that I will celebrate to declare the beginning of this time of jubilee grace on October 12 at 12 p.m., a day that also marks the 131st Anniversary of the Pontifical Coronation of the Virgin of Guadalupe.

During this Jubilee Year, which will conclude on October 12, 2027, as granted by the Holy See, the faithful who visit with devotion and a contrite spirit the Sacred House of Santa María de Guadalupe and participate in any liturgical act or dedicate a time of prayer in the Basilica may obtain a Plenary Indulgence for themselves or apply it for the souls in Purgatory, fulfilling the usual conditions established by the Church (confession, Eucharistic communion, recitation of the Creed, and prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father).

At the same time, I encourage you to stay tuned for the various events that will be announced at the Basilica on the occasion of this Jubilee. Additionally, attached to this Statement, you will find information regarding the schedule for October 11 and 12 for the preparation and launch of the Jubilee.

May Santa María de Guadalupe, Mother of the True God for Whom One Lives, help us make the most of this Jubilee and accompany us on this path of spiritual renewal and conversion.

Fraternally in Christ the Good Shepherd,
