Some people rise from the ashes of tragedy to do great things. People are championing David Hogg as such a person. Hogg was just named a vice chair of the DNC.
First, the tragedy.
There is no getting around it. For David Hogg, it starts with his sister Lauren Hogg (pictured together)
February 14th, 2018 was a horrific day for Florida and for America. A gunman entered into the halls of Marjory Stoneman Douglass high school in Parkland, Florida and shot 34 people.
17 of those people died. According to police timelines, this seems to be the approximate order in which they were shot.
Luke Hoyer- 15
Martin Duque Angiano- 14
Gina Montalto- 14
Alex Schacter- 14
Nicholas Dworet- 17
Helena Ramsey- 17
Alaina Petty- 14
Alyssa Alhadeff- 14
Carmen Schentrup - 16
Chris Hixon- 47
Aaron Feis- 37
Scott Beigel- 35
Meadow Pollack- 18
Cara Loughran- 14
Peter Wang- 15
Jaime Guttenberg- 14
Joaquin Olliver- 17
For the students, teachers, faculty and community- and for the nation- it was a senseless trauma. Few experienced it as deeply as Lauren. She lost 4 friends. (highlighted in Red)
Since then, many of the family members have responded to the tragedy with a clarion call for action. Some have done so with class and grace and enacted real change to address the failures and correct them.
4 parents come to mind in particular- Tony Montalto, Ryan Petty, Lori Alhadeff and Max Schacter. Andrew Pollack has probably done more than anyone in bringing to light the systemic corruption and law enforcement failures that allowed this very preventable tragedy to occur.
Sadly, others have used the tragedy to promote themselves and lash out at innocent people in the vilest and most vulgar terms. One of them is Fred Guttenberg. Another is David Hogg.
Both of these persons lash out at all Republicans with a visceral and demonic hate. They refer to all of us as MAGAtts. This is not the way to win hearts and influence people. Blaming 77 million Americans for what one sick sociopath did on a February afternoon is hardly in keeping with the tradition of the party of the people and people will reject this vice chair more and more with every f-bomb he launches.
May the souls of the 17 rest in peace as well as the two who later committed suicide. May the families be comforted and may God bring good from this.
May David Hogg's tenure be short.
