Tonight, I attended my last Mass of 2024 and I did my best to really make it count. The Jubilee year 2025 began 4 days ago on Christmas Eve. Saint John the Evangelist church has been designated as one of the pilgrimage churches in our diocese. I got there early enough to pray a chaplet for the holy father and go to confession. That unlocks the ultimate bonus level- a plenary indulgence.
That means full remission of all sin and punishment. In other words, you bypass purgatory if your number is called.
As wonderful as an ending to 2024 this is, I'm really hoping to get 2025 kicked off even better so I'm shooting for the stars. My plan is to attend the Mass for the Holy Day of January 1st (The Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God) followed by the First Friday on the feast of the Holy Name (January 3rd), the First Saturday on the 4th and then another Plenary visit to Saint John's on Sunday the 5th, the eve of the Epiphany.
4 Masses in 5 days is an ambitious goal but I really need a good start to 2025. The graces I receive will hopefully give me that strong start. Pray for me.
