Getting my mind around the travel time and distance

In order to try and process the immensity of this trip, I decided to simply concentrate on time and distance of travel. By the end of the first day, I will have traveled farther than I have ever previously traveled in a day by more than a factor of 4. 3600 miles is hard for me to imagine. 7 hours and 40 minutes is pushing the upper limits of what I have traveled in a single trip.

Travel on land will cover almost 2,000 miles and will be more than 34 hours. That means that by the time I reach Paris, I will have traveled in excess of 5,500 miles and will have spent about 42 hours sitting in a plane or bus seat.

Coming back will put me over 50 total travel hours, covering over 9,350 miles.

Of course, the 9,350 miles, in 4 countries will be a good conversation point but the 50 hours of travel time are going to have a real impact, especially since I might spend another 50 hours walking.

17 days is 408 hours. I expect to devote 8 hours a day sleeping and that means that more than 1/3 of my waking hours are going to be spent walking, riding or flying.

I am glad I figured this out early because I plan on devoting a lot of that time to reading, writing, podcasting, and praying. I will be prepared.
