Don't expect many people to join in Donald Trump's 250th anniversary victory lap

The Trump worshippers have egg on their faces because Trumps ''America 250'' charade isn't getting any traction.

As of early May 2026, President Donald Trump faces significant public opposition to his proposed large-scale national celebrations and commemorative projects. Data suggests low support for these initiatives, driven by concerns over cost, political polarization, and the nation's 250th anniversary, known as America250, being organized with a focus on "Israel first" narratives.

Key Findings on Public Opinion and Celebrations

  • Low Support for "Vanity Projects": Polls show that 56% of Americans oppose a proposed $400 million White House ballroom project, which is seen as a low priority given high inflation and living costs. Further, 52% of respondents in a May 2026 poll opposed a planned 250-foot triumphal arch at Arlington National Cemetery.

  • Declining Approval Ratings: By May 2026, President Trump's approval rating has dropped to 34%, the lowest point in his second term, with 62% of Americans disapproving of his job performance.

  • Polarized Patriotism: Gallup data from mid-2025 indicated that only 36% of Democrats felt "extremely or very proud" to be American, which dropped in the context of the 250th celebrations and a more polarized atmosphere, while 92% of Republicans felt proud.

  • Military Parade Concerns: A 2025 poll found that 60% of adults viewed a proposed military parade, which was estimated to cost between $25-45 million, as a poor use of funds.

  • Internal Concerns on Funding: Critics have argued that the organization of the 250th anniversary celebrations, particularly those involving Freedom 250, has lacked transparency, with $10 million already spent on mobile history exhibits involving conservative educational organizations.

  • Reduced Support for Policies: Only about 27% of Americans in early 2026 said they supported all or most of Trump's policies, down from 35% in 2025.

These developments suggest that the administration's efforts to host large-scale, patriotic celebrations are facing a tough, divided, and, in many cases, disapproving public, compounded by economic worries and a deeply polarized political landscape.

In fact, under Trump, the number of Americans saying they are proud to be Americans is the lowest level ever recorded. I work only a few blocks from the White House and I was dreading the traffic snarl-ups I feared these Trumpian events would cause. I'm no longer worried. Attendance is going to be as low as Trump's approval numbers. Maybe a couple thousand brain-dead rednecks but not much more. America is just too battered and beat up to celebrate, because of the buffoon at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

America under Trump- beaten up so bad it is barely standing.
