It is fascinating to look at a race in miniature and then full screen. I don't think anyone could deny that Kamala Harris has been a far superior candidate to her predecessor Joe Biden. What few on the right want to concede is that she has been a better candidate than Donald Trump as well.
While The 4 Persons, inc is not allowed to formally endorse a candidate, I can speak about my personal views. Kamala Harris has run a very empty and vanilla campaign, short on answers and long on platitudes. It is exactly the campaign that got Barack Obama elected in 2008. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has run a campaign that is shocking in it's monumental stupidity. He seems determined to do 2 things;
Alienate his own base
Shock undecided voters with his mindless rhetoric and rambling.
In many ways, we are seeing in Trump 2024, the beginning stages of Biden 2.0 with the mental lapses. In the early stages of the media Kamalot, it appeared that this was really making a difference and Kamala clearly cleaned Trump's clock in the debate. If the election were held then, Kamala certainly would have won.
The election wasn't then and Kamala is being dragged down by the gravity of things she cannot control. It is as though her rallies about Joy and Optimism and Happiness are all occurring in a freezing rainstorm and people, though they are bombarded with messages about happiness cannot forget, even for a second, how miserable they are.
Obama ran as a blank slate so he could get away with hope and change. Kamala cannot. The most colorful rhetoric cannot erase the abject misery that has been the last 4 years in America. That reality has solidified, and it is the political gravity that keeps bringing this race back to Trump.
In fact, polling in the past few days has returned to an environment that suggests a red wave. Kamala's campaigning hasn't gotten that worse, and Trump's hasn't gotten that much better. The realities are just setting in for folks.
I will give a sports analogy.
I love Catholic convert Marcus Freeman, the coach at Notre Dame. He is a class guy and a far better person than previous coach Brian Kelly. Everybody wants Marcus to succeed. Everybody believed he would.
However, when you are Notre Dame and you lose at home to Marshall, Stanford and Northern Illinois, the rah-rah coach speak ceases to convince people that what their eyes are telling them isn't true. It's hard to have faith when things are going that badly.
In the end, this election seems to be settling back to the Ronald Reagan question. Are you better or worse off than 4 years ago?. They see the country as on fire- the economy, the border, energy independence and this totalitarian police-state creeping in on us.
Fair or not, Kamala owns that baggage and that what appears to be moving the polls back to Trump. As for me personally, I plan to early vote. Despite my absolute disgust with Trump's gargantuan lurch to the left, I am going to have to hold my nose and vote for him. The Democrats, in my view, are a clear and present danger to literally everything.
These views are my own personal opinions.
